Research

Expanding the boundaries of knowledge is vital to NSCAD's mission and the university is committed to fostering opportunities for research in the visual arts, culture and design.

Our research culture enriches education and provides exciting opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to develop and consolidate knowledge and skills involved in critical inquiry.

Research at NSCAD includes the production of original works of art and cultural artefacts in all media, the production of scholarly publications relevant to the history, theory and criticism of, and education in, the visual arts and culture and, the application of new technologies and processes in the development of innovative products and services.

While research often takes the form of individual scholarly investigation, it is increasingly becoming a more dynamic and collaborative venture bridging multiple disciplines, employing new digital technologies and creating new partnerships with other postsecondary institutions and the private sector.
